This series explores several areas of personal and art historical interest. It is based on an appropriation of Picasso's painting "Fem au coq", which shows a women cradling a rooster in her lap, (perhaps to be interpreted as Picasso himself). Secondly the series incorporates the notion of Parisian cafe life along with memories I have of the historical small downtown of Fair Oakes, California. The original town is nestled close to the American River and like a lot of older historical downtowns has a number of boutique shops and establishments to eat and drink, (the Cafe O is a French style bistro and bakery and one of my favorites). The area of note here in regards to this series is that there is a flock of chickens and roosters, (known as the Fair Oakes chickens) that are allowed free range to roam around old town and the small park located there. In the early nineties I had a studio housed in a converted victorian house that sat on a hill overlooking old town Fair Oakes. One could hear the constant crowing of the roosters and run into the flock whenever outside.
I require that buyers outside the continental USA contact me first for shipping information.
