This series is based on paintings by Pablo Picasso that he completed in 1905 including  "The Family of Saltimbanques" during his rose period. The paintings focus on a family of circus performers, acrobats and clowns. I chose these paintings because I have longed admired them and have used them in this series as a starting point to explore ways of creating multiple interpretations and as a lens through which I might examine my own life and mortality. The works are rendered on un-stretched canvas that has been textured and gessoed in order to create a distressed surface that becomes an integral part of the final painting. Completed December 2022.
