An interpretive portrait from my "Floating Head" series of the French model Marie Therese Walter lover of Pablo Picasso from 1927 to about 1935 and the mother of their daughter Maya Widmaier-Picasso.

A combination of styles and techniques informs this piece including minimalism, drip, surrealism, early modernism and pop art. The painting uses both oil and enamel based paints. The background drips are applied with enamel which has a high gloss finish. This creates a contrast with the solid unvarnished oil background that has a flat finish to it. A spot coat of gloss varnish has been applied onto the figure again creating a subtle yet visually interesting contrast in materials.
